Amazed by the speed of our sale!

Retirees Raymond and Gill Magee secured buyers for their Spanish home less than two months after putting it on the market, thanks to the efforts of HomeEspaña’s sales team.

The Magees, from Liverpool and in their late 60s, were delighted to complete the sale of their villa in Montroy at the start of August 2022. They had decided it was time to sell only in February that year, after owning the property for 14-and-a-half happy years and creating lots of family memories there.

“We appointed HomeEspaña as the selling agent towards the end of May and six weeks later we had accepted an offer of €178,000,” said Gill. “Completion day was 4th August. We really hadn’t expected it all to happen so quickly! Our buyers, who were from the Manchester area, were the third people to view. We sold the property fully furnished – these days it’s not easy and expensive to have stuff brought back to the UK.”

The Magees, who have an adult son and daughter and one grandchild, used to visit every six to eight weeks, typically spending the whole of May and September there, and the children used to visit with friends too. But in recent times they had started to find it a struggle to maintain the property by themselves.

“It’s a big place and takes a lot of looking after,” continued Gill. “Increasingly we were unable to do everything ourselves, which meant having to organise and pay people to do bits. So we thought the time had come to sell and let other people enjoy owning it. It’s a beautiful house and it deserved new owners – which we found very quickly thanks to the effective marketing of HomeEspaña, who also introduced us to a lawyer.”

The couple’s old villa is in a small community of no more than 20 properties surrounded by the pretty countryside of Valencia’s interior. A peaceful location with views of the mountains, amenities are just a 10-minute drive away at Real de Montroi or Dos Aguas in the other direction. Inside, the two-storey property includes a kitchen-diner, two living rooms, four bedrooms (five when they purchased it), two bathrooms and three upstairs terraced areas. Outside space comes with a pool, orchard and olive grove, an outside kitchen, garage and parking area.

“We liked the location as it’s in a peaceful rural area that has lovely views without being too isolated,” said Gill. “We’re not beach people and never wanted to be in a developed resort surrounded by other tourists. And we were attracted by the size and style of the property, which is imposing and even has its own turret feature!”

Montroi (also Montroy) is a town and district around 20kms south-west of Valencia city. It is popular for its traditional farming villages, rolling landscape of citrus groves and vineyards and its mountain backdrop.
